Matushka Retreat 2003

With the Blessing of His Grace Bishop NIKOLAI, Matushki from across the diocese gathered in Anchorage at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral to gather for a time of renewal and fellowship. Dr. Pam Taylor traveled from Illinois to conduct a seminar entitled: Simple Ways of Healing. Dr. Taylor combined naturopathic and homeopathic remedies with our Orthodox faith to show the Matushka's how they can help themselves and others to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Some of the issues addressed were basic healing of wounds, strains, and illness without the use of heavy drugs. The Matushka's learned simple and effective techniques to sustain and improve their health as they minister to the spiritual needs of others in their community. Matushki also shared some of the native traditional ways of healing they use in their villages, as well as personal concerns and cares as they struggle within their unique situations.

Many were able to see and catch up with friends they had not spent time with since the previous year, as well as meet the new Matushki in the diocese. We all thank Dr. Taylor for putting on such an interesting and helpful seminar and we look forward to next years retreat!
