June 21 - 23, 2005, the Wonder-working Icon of the Mother of God of Sitka travelled to the Pribilof Islands. She visited St. George Church on St. George Island. The parish of St. George was founded in 1833 when Aleuts were taken from Unalaska to seal hunt and the current Church building will be celebrating its 100 year anniversary next year (2006). Deacon Andronik Kashevarof (in pictures below receiving an icon for his service to the Church) was tonsured a reader 50 years ago by Metropolitan LEONTY when he visited St. George. The parish is serviced at the present time by Archpriest Maxim Isaac.
