OISM was initially organized to foster closer relationships between students of canonical Orthodox seminaries in the US and Canada and recently revived. His Grace Bishop NIKOLAI was one of the original students when OISM was founded while attending Christ the Savior Seminary, and when OISM was revived in 2003, Paul-Gabriel Erickson from the Diocese of Alaska was elected the interim president. Seminaries active in OISM include Christ the Savior Seminary, Johnstown, PA; Holy Cross Seminary, Brookline, MA; St. Herman Seminary, Kodiak, AK; St. Tikhon Seminary, South Canaan, PA; St. Vladimir Seminary, Crestwood, NY; and St. Andrew Seminary, Winnipeg, MB.
11 students from four seminaries came to Alaska under OISM's auspices to visit Saint Herman's Seminary, Kodiak, AK; to make a pilgrimage to Spruce Island, where Saint Herman spent much of his life and to visit other places in Alaska.
