For the Feast of the Dormition, His Grace, Bishop NIKOLAI and his entourage traveled together to Kenai to visit the historic parish there. Kenai, a center of Russian exploration and colonization, is also the religious center for the Kenai Peninsula’s Orthodox population. The parish in Kenai was founded in 1846. Along with His Grace traveled Protopresbyter Joseph Kreta, former Dean of St. Herman Seminary and long-time Chancellor of the Diocese. St. Herman Seminary was founded originally in Kenai by Fr. Joseph in 1970, so it was a trip full of memories for him and his wife Matushka Marie. Along with Priest Thomas Andrew, rector of the parish, the faithful hosted His Grace and his guests from Anchorage (two deacons, servers and a choir) with a potluck meal in which everyone had opportunity to break the fast.
