The Very Reverend Archpriest Peter George Bourdukofsky, 61, fell asleep in the Lord
March 12, 2005 at Alaska Regional Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

Funeral services were celebrated Thursday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Cathedral with His Grace, The Right Reverend Nikolai, Bishop of Sitka, Anchorage, and Alaska officiating. Pallbearers included the Diocesan Clergy, son, brothers, brother-in-law, sons-in-law, and nephews. Burial will be announced later this spring.

A lifelong Alaskan Archpriest Peter was born May 27, 1943 in the Funter Bay Internment Camp, in Admiralty, Alaska. He lived on St. Paul Island for 16 years and in Anchorage for 35 years. The last seven years, he lived in Unalaska.

Archpriest Peter was a graduate of Mt. Edgecumbe High School and went on to attend Haskell Indian Nations Junior College and St. Herman’s Seminary.

After 31 years of service, he retired as a civil service supervisor of the V&W shop at Fort Richardson. He was a member of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Alaska and was ordained a Deacon November 15, 1987 and a Protodeacon in 1991. He entered the Priesthood November 28, 1993 and in 2002 was elevated to Archpriest. Most recently, he had been the rector of the Holy Ascension Orthodox Cathedral in Unalaska. He was the Dean of the Unalaska Deanery of the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Alaska (OCA).

His family wrote, “The Very Reverend, Peter was a man of great faith. His love for the Orthodox Church was unquestionable. He touched the lives of many through his words and kind acts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.”

Survivors include his wife Matushka Katherine Bourdukofsky; mother, Mary N. Bourdukofsky; children, Daniel and Cynthia Henry, Brian and Karen McIntire, Mark Bourdukofsky; brothers and sisters, Jason and Chauncina Bourdukofsky, Katherine and Greg Fratis, Dennis Bourdukofsky, Eugene and Mary Janice Bourdukofsky, Thomas and Samantha Bourdukofsky; adopted children; Fr. Peter and Matushka Diane Chris; grandchildren, David and Peter Henry, Brandon and Tyler McIntire, Benjamin Bourdukofsky; adopted grandchildren, Abigail and Jerimiah Chris; and numerous relatives, godchildren family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Bourdukofsky; brother, Benjamin Bourdukofsky; and niece, Veronica Fratis.
